Latest Release
QMate 1.5.3 - released February 6th, 2000
- QMate now supports repeating transactions. Any memorized
transaction can be set to repeat on a weekly, bi-weekly, monthly,
twice yearly or yearly basis. To set the repeat frequency and
start date for a memorized transaction, go to the Edit Payees
dialog, select the desired transaction and tap the Details
button.
- You can have QMate check for repeating transactions each time
you run it by selecting the "Auto enter repeat trans" setting in
the Preferences dialog, or you can invoke a check manually by
selecting the "Check Repeat Trans" item from the Options
menu.
- Users who enter checks in QMate to be printed in Quicken will
likely appreciate this next feature. You can now enter an address
for a transaction; this address will appear on the check when
printed in Quicken. This feature and the previous one can greatly
simplify monthly bill paying. Please note: only the Windows
version of QSync supports this feature.
- I added a currency conversion pop-up dialog that
displays the currently entered transaction amount, conversion rate
and the converted amount in the base currency. Tap the '=' trigger
button to the right of the amount edit field on the Edit
Transaction dialog to display the currency conversion pop-up
dialog.
- The 1.5.2 release of QMateEntry had a couple of problems which
I fixed.
- Bug fix: when using the Edit Categories dialog to create new
subcategories they were not always being inserted in the proper
place.
- Bug fix: QMateEntry used to launch QMate when you did a Find;
QMate would crash if launched from QMateEntry and no accounts
existed.
Planned Improvements
- QMate 1.6: account balances updated when transactions
are imported, CSV file support.
- QMate 2.0: Direct synchronization with Quicken (without
using QIF files). I am looking into providing direct
synchronization support with MSMoney.
Previous Releases
QMate 1.5.2 - released October 7th, 1999
- Go to top and Go to bottom commands in the Lists menu - these
commands make it easy for you to quickly jump to either end of
your accounts or transactions list.
- Option to display cleared status on the Transaction list
screen - shown as a checkbox that is an operational control;
clicking it will toggle the cleared status of the selected
transaction. Using this in conjunction with the Transaction Show
function you can have QMate "hide" items as you check them. This
makes QMate a useful tool for reconciling bank or credit card
statements.
- Memorized Transactions improvements:
- lookup field on the Select Payee dialog.
- locked memorized transactions - you can now lock a
memorized transaction so that its values remain fixed; any
changes made to a recalled memorized transaction apply to the
recalled instance only and not the one stored in your master
list.
- quick next feature - if you have memorized transactions
that have very similar payees (for example, I pay for two
separate phone lines and have them entered as Pacific Bell (1)
and Pacific Bell (2)) you can enter a carriage return character
when using QuickFill in the payee field after matching the
first one and QMate will enter the next memorized
transaction.
- Category List improvements - you can now edit, create and
delete categories from within QMate. The recommend method to set
up your category list is still to import them but these new
enhancements will make working with categories even easier. Also,
I added a lookup field to the Select Category dialog.
- New Transaction shortcut - when in the Transactions list you
can enter a character in the grafitti area and QMate will
automatically create a new transaction for you and begin the payee
with the character you entered. QuickFill is also supported in
this feature.
- Number field enhancement - tapping the left side of the Number
field label will decrement the transaction number, tapping the
right side will increment it. This is similar to the data field
feature.
Not really a new feature but I thought I'd mention it anyhow:
- I reordered the menus to make QMate more consistent with other
Palm apps.
And now for some exciting news. I'm pleased to announce the
release of a new QMate add-on: QMateEntry.
- QMateEntry is a very simple Palm app (less than 450 bytes in
size) that launches QMate with a special notification telling
QMate to create a new transaction and navigate to the New
Transaction dialog in the account you last used in QMate. Using
one of the many launch hacks available or the button reassignment
feature built into the newer Palm models, you can use QMateEntry
as a one-button means for quickly creating a new transaction in
QMate. Also, if the last used account is not the one you want to
use, simply choose the correct account in the Account pop-up menu
in QMate's New Transaction dialog. This greatly simplifies
entering expenses in "real time."
