QMate 2.0 User's Guide
Windows Installation

To install QMate onto your Palm device, please follow these instructions:

Use the Palm install application program (instapp.exe on Windows, InstallApp on Mac) to install the QMate.prc file.

Perform a HotSync to copy the file to your Palm device.

Installing QSync for Windows

To install QSync on your Windows machine, please follow these instructions:

  • Quit HotSync Manager if you are running it.
  • Unzip the download archive into an empty or newly created directory.
  • Run QSetup.exe. There are four panels in the QSetup wizard that guide you through the process of configuring QSync.
    • Panel 1 - QIF Transfer Directories
      • QMate to Desktop directory (also known as the QMate output directory) - this is where QMate will write the QIF files it generates. It defaults to C:\QMate\Output. QMate will create the directory if necessary. You can use the Browse button to locate an existing directory.
      • Desktop to QMate directory (also known as the QMate input directory) - this is where you put QIF files (for example, catlist.qif, memorized.qif or any individual transaction QIF file) to be imported into QMate. It defaults to C:\QMate\Input. Like the previous directory QMate will create this one if necessary. Be sure to make these two directories different.
    • Panel 2 - QIF File Options
      • QIF File Mode (overwrite/append) - these settings control how QMate treats existing QIF files when you perform a HotSync. Overwrite will delete them prior to writing new information while append will preserve the previous contents. If you plan to HotSync more often than you import QIF files into Quicken then you should choose append. If you use append then be sure to delete the QIF files after importing them into Quicken.
      • Single QIF file - this option is for anyone using Quicken 6 or later. It instructs QMate to write all transactions to a single QIF file, called QMate.qif, that you can import into Quicken. This is big time saver if you have a lot of accounts.
    • Panel 3 - Date Format
      • Date Format - for most users the default setting of MM/DD/YYYY will be the desired setting. If you use an international version of Quicken or an older release you may need to choose one of the other options. The text in the dialog will help you determine which setting is appropriate for your configuration.
      • Date Delimiter - only international users will be concerned with this setting; some may need to use the '.'. All other users should accept the default, '/'.
    • Panel 4 - Miscellaneous Settings
      • Interpret cleared status as reconciled - when you import QIF files into Quicken you can have it interpret cleared transactions in one of two ways: as cleared or as reconciled. Most users will want to leave this unchecked and leave the reconciliation up to Quicken.
      • Convert amounts - this is for international users and should be left unchecked by most users. Check it only if you are experiencing problems with the amounts when you import QIF files into Quicken.

After specifying the desired settings on the QMate Setup panels press the Finish button. QMate Setup will copy the files to the correct places and prepare your machine for synchronizing QMate data when you HotSync.

IMPORTANT: You must quit and restart the HotSync Manager application for the changes you just made to take effect. If you are unfamiliar with how to do this, you can reboot your machine which will accomplish the same thing.

That's all there is to it. To use QSync, run the HotSync Manager and perform a HotSync. But before you do that, you might want to enter some account and transaction information into QMate so QSync will have something to work with. See the "Using QMate" section for details on how to do this.

Installing QSync for Mac

Installing QSync for the Mac is simple: after unstuffing the download archive, double-click the QSync application icon and you're ready to go. I recommend leaving the Auto-run checkbox unchecked until you understand what it does and how to bypass it. This and the rest of the settings in QSync for the Mac are described below in Using QSync for Mac.
